    7) No becuase you would want to discuss a topic that's more consequential to the public.

    8) It depends on the situation, if the situation is private and does not effect the public it should be pulled from the records. But if it'd spmething thats effecting someone in a negative way, then print it.

    9) Yes, because school district officials have no reason to want to hide the story. They might not want the mom to get publicity but if the parent was "out of control" it should be reported.

    10) No, because if the police are not releasing the names the school shouldn't either. Also you know the people and the situation does not pertain to the school in any way such.

    11) Yes air it but leave the decision of the letter being true or false to the audience. The letter is anonymous so it won't embarass anyone specifically.

    7. Yes we would cover the story as two seperate ocurrences. We wouldn't try to tie the stories in any way because they are two different incidences, or fabricate any connection that wasn't there.

    8. We would not run her comments because the ethical thing it to not include the comments. She could loose her job. Personal morals make it impossible to ruin a woman's career and possibly her life for the sake of a story. Editors may want to run the story because the comments were on the record but we believe that it's unethical to run the story.

    9. we should not air the story because we only have one side of the story, and without comment from the district we don't know the full motivation behind their actions. It is wrong of the school district to attempt to stifle the article but, we would also be in the wrong for running the article without their comment.

    10. We would publish the story in our school newspaper but we wouldn't release their names because if their names aren't being release, then they shouldn't be released at all. They are protected by the law and their is the fact that they're minors.

    11. We probably wouldn't read it but we could if we made it clear that this person has a bias and a reason to feel resentful toward the team. What the writer is saying may not be entirely true. If he is truely resentful then he would have reason to defame the basketball team and the principal. As no clear conclusion could be made about the letter it would be best to discard it.

  5. 1. The srorry should be done about the music store because many teenage students listen to music and not only will the story benifit the store but it will inform students where they can find new and old music. I will make the story because I know the most about the store.

    2. I wouldn't use the picture in a school newspaper because the story can affect many students who were friends with the student and it could affect any teacher who is a parent by seeing the pain on the mother's face from losing a child.

    3. I will not publish the story because it can bring panic to students, teachers and parents. If a parent feels that their child is in danger they probably will not send them to school. It can cause a big distraction in class for students and it can cause more threats. Some students might find it funny to make more threats in order to make a school evacuation and not go to class.

    4. I will not the information because it will cause problems between the principal and the board and if the board doesn't confirm it, then that means that they aren't 100% sure that they are going to make that decision. They might want to change their mind or I probably misunderstood what I heard.

    5. I will not use his name because he does not want his name in the paper. It can cause problems between the student and the pregnant teen, problems between the student and myself and problems between the people that are in charge of the paper and myself.

    6. I will kill the story because you don't want a teacher feeling unappreciated in the school. If you wanted to rate the teacher I would do it in a private way but not put it in the paper because it will make a teacher feel bad if they are rated poorly. Also many students feel different about how good a teacher is. One student might feel the teacher is the best teacher in the world but another might feel that the teacher is the worst.

#1. A story shouldn't be done, because this story isn't important at all.
#2. We would use this picture, because it captures the image that the story is about. It would attract a lot of attention to the story.
#3. Yes, I would publish the story, because if a bomb actually did hit the school, and children died, I would be an accessory to murder.
#4. No, because the imformation that you have was not confirmed, and the source that you got your information from is not reliable or accurate. The information could easily be changed without your knowledge, and your information could end up being false.
#5. No, because you could get sued for using somebodies name in a paper, without there consent. The editors and/or reporters should consider the privacy of others. The ethical thing to do is to keep his name annonymous in respect to him.
#6. I would advise the producer to keep all of his elected ballots annonymous, so that there is no kind of negative reaction to to the ballots and results.

  7. 1. We should talk about how kids music influences their lives so and how his uncle’s place is a new location where they can experience new and different types of music. It is a human-interest report.

    2. We don’t think it would be an invasion of privacy, it would show firsthand the distraught and the impact of this tragedy on the family. We think this is a proximity story and a proximity reporter should write it.

    3. Well the principal should have a faculty meeting and discuss whether it would be a good idea to publish that story in the public, because they wouldn’t want the student body worrying about something if they’re not even in danger. But if it is a good idea, then they should publish the story because the student body should have knowledge if they’re lives are being threatened.

    4. No, you can’t because you weren’t supposed to even hear that conversation, so you can’t publish that story because they could say that it’s false facts.

    5. Don’t use his exact name but you can still use the scenario just don’t include his name because he can choose to be anonymous.

6.you should ask the students opinion teachers opinion and they people that are higher up such as principle or board members.

    1. Yes, proximity and interest should make it a good story. However, the story should be done by another unbiased reporter.
    2. The family, especially the mother, and if it is okay with them, the photograph should be used.
    3. Yes, that is important information regarding the safety of the students. The parents and students have a right to know. Also, there is no reason the story would encourage bomb threats, its more likely that it would discourage it.
    4. No, this is personal and confidential information.
    5. Of course not. In such a touchy situation, a request for anonymity should be respected.
    6. We were split on this one. While it was argued that this should be run with a large sample size, with specific questions requiring specific answers so that any answers that are based only on subjective preference could be eliminated. The story would be as if constrictive criticism, maybe based more like what students would prefer without names. Such improvements would make the article quite interesting and helpful to teachers as well. It was also argued that this could be hurtful and the survey would not be flawless, some students may make things up. We did not come to an agreement.
