  1. "Deadly Rainfall at scene of 2012 Wildfire in Colorado"
A mudslide/flood in Manitou Springs closed a highway and the flood trapped people in high fast moving water.

The flood and mudslide were caused by the 2012 wildfire. The fire burnt the ground and dirt causing the dirt to not absorb water as well and the rainfall led to a flash flood. Parked cars were pulled down stream 0and and at least own house was washed away.

    Thoughts on Newspaper
When I first picked up my newspaper, I noticed the topics are mainly about celebrities. This is because the newspaper is from the New York Times. As I continued to read this article, I became more and more intrigued. The reason why I became so interested is because it was about one of my favorites comedians, Dave Chappelle. That’s the only reason why I kept reading the article. I kept reading because I began to realize that Dave Chappelle, is a brave young man and he shows that the TV industry really isn’t what it is cracked up to be. One thing that stood out to me was the fact that this comedian walked away from a 50 million dollar contract. He also walked away from his famous TV comedy show, “The Chappelle show.” This stood out to me because no one would walk away from that much money unless there is something deep going on behind closed doors. I would like to get more information on why Dave walked away and went to Africa for a while.

  3. I took an Art & Leisure newspaper and read some articles. It has many advertisements, mainly entertainment ads. I read an article called "Sci-Fi Horror Fest With Nod to a Titan". It was a short article that was about a sci-fi festival that hasn't been on for seventeen years. The article explained what the festival was basically about, who made the two chosen films, and what the films were about. Overall, I didn't find the newspaper as interesting as I thought it would be.

    Vows section.
Title: A Love Embraced, Some 35 Years Later
The article I read was about two lovers. They were both getting over their first marriage at young ages, and would jog at the beach and see each other. soon the man, Mark Obenhaus, would purposely want to see the women, Gay Cioff. They later began seeing each other and are still together 35 years later. This article was mainly about how the two now married couple met at their age. It was about their love story.

  5. In the news paper Sunday review, the news paper itself has many pictures, ads and is quite opinionated. the article "When Leaning in Doesn't Pay Off" had a picture, a couple things in bold, including one of their biggest points and the title. the article shows the progression of the story, just like online but it is harder to read. You cant enlarge the writing and it is harder to get from page to page.

  6. The article I chose was of an Everglades nature walk. Essentially, it's like a boardwalk....without the boardwalk. The only thing that accompanies you on the hike is your guide, your friends, some old muddy shoes, and a walking stick. The thing that makes the walk so unique is its natural, scenic environment that you become completely submerged in. The wildlife can vary from ferocious spiders, snakes, alligators, and even occasional panthers. The deep, murky waters forbid you from seeing the bottom, as beetles scurry about to swarm your legs. The best part is that, even out here in this formidable land, you can still bring your cameras. Sure, your pictures may not look like John Shaw, but the fact that you took it is enough of an experience that hundreds of people have traveled here to discover it for themselves.

  7. I got a New York Times magazine, from September 1, 2013. The main story is called "Widening Ripples of Grief in Adoptee's Death." This is about 2 newly adopted boys from Russia that were killed and the police suspect that the adoptee mother did it. They were playing outside one regular afternoon and she went to the bathroom for a quick second. When she came back Max, the 3-year-old was lying on the ground not breathing. They were immediately rushed to the hospital, when the doctor was checking him out he noticed many bruises on the boys bodies. That's when the police made her a murder suspect. His death set off international furor, and they're birth mother even found out about it. After all the chaos the medical examiners finally concluded that his accident resulted from an internal injury. Probably caused by a fall from the swing set. "His bruises were self-inflicted," said the medical examiners. They said he was a deeply troubled kid that clawed his skin rawed, banged his head against walls, and hurled his body on the floor.

    New York Times
International- Jamaica Fights To Break Grip Of Violent Past

Today I read a section from the New York Times about how violence ratings in Kingston, Jamaica have slowly began to decrease over the last few years. Once one of the main drug lords by the name of Christopher M. Coke, was put into jail Kingston has started to rebuilt its self with more of an involved community. It was refreshing to read about positive changes around the world rather than negative ones which often times in the news, you hear more about.

  10. The section I had chosen was New York Times front section dated August 25, 2013. Articles included " College Football's Biggest Player? ESPN " City Sleepover in a Rooftop Camp" and "Battling Superstition, Indian Paid With His Life". My favorite article had to be "Restaurants Were His Life" it was about a man named Colin Devlin who was a true entrepreneur when he made restaurants from nothing. At one time he was broke,so for close friends and loyal customers he offered them free meals. Although he was altruistic and quite known he wasn't contempt and ended up committing suicide, by shooting himself in the back of his head. This article interested me because it was different, but also sad at the same time.

  11. The article that I chose was about how President Obama has to make the tough choice on rather he and America should intervene with Syria. He could either focus on the troubles in the United States or focus on more humanitarian efforts in Syria. The potential disaster on the uprising along the borders of Syria could possibly be postponed or even stopped if America intervenes. The majority of America believes that there is enough problems in the states and that we should just let it play out until action is needed.

  14. In the SportsSunday section, Tyler Kepner wrote an article about the baseball team,"Phillies," titled, "Phillies Become Old and Out of Date." In this article Tyler talks about how the Phillies were created and were a popular team back in the day but now is out of date because of the repeated losses.

  15. I got the SundayStyle section of The Times, which includes articles on style(many ads for companies like Prada and Gucci), lifestyles and relationships. The article I read titled, "Sex in a Teenagers Room?", it had a lot to do with lifestyle choices and relationships. The article focused on how some parents, in the US, have made deals with their teens to allow live in girlfriends/boyfriends, with the knowledge that they engage in sexual acts while under their roofs. The kids are only sixteen years old, their minors! My parents would never in a million years allow anything of the sort. I think that those parents are encouraging reckless behaviors. Sex can be dangerous and comes with heavy consequences that are hard for anyone to deal with, yet alone teenagers. If one of the teens encountered a disease, because there is no guarantee that a partner will always be faithful, I'd hold the parents accountable. They are just kids and they allowed it to happen. This was a deeply upsetting article I came across, the fact that some parents have allowed this is very unsettling. No wonder kids are having kids. This was just crazy. Somewhere along the line, the parents failed to communicate some important principle to their children.
